A link on ToI led me this piece of news . You don't mess with the dynamic in lives of ageless characters; unless they're losing their relevance and you need something sensational to pick things up again... which may be what's happening with Archie . Growing up I was addicted to these and was once even told off my the librarian at a local private library for hanging around the section where those books were for too long. I sometimes just read the books right there standing instead of bothering to check them out.:) My bet though is that this will never really happen and it'll be some sort of "what-if" kinda thing that they've done a bunch of times. For the record though, I vote for Betty . :) Update : Looks like I was right about the "what-if" part .

Wow. Looks like I'm the first result for " Mithun comic " on Google now. Thanks to a co-worker , I read the book. It was pretty funny; very, very tongue-in-cheek and it only makes sense if you watched Mithun's movies from back in the day, but funny

Rediff reports this thingy .:) Its been a while since I've laid my hands on an Indian comic. The kitsch factor on this particular one seems really high, but in a culture that loves its movies and only to a slightly lesser extent its books and comics, this could actually work really well. Hey, I'd pick one up! I actually remember reading an issue or two of the old Amitabh comic , which was surprisingly sophisticated. It'd be really interesting to see if they can make the comic work online as well. I don't see one channel cannibalizing the other and there's definitely a large expat market as well. Indian computer animation ability keeps getting better and better, at this point probably being world-class at a fraction of the price. Also, we're seeing new media houses snap up rights for old Indian comic classics . Of all the comic book adaptations, that I'd worried "they" would screw up, Speed Racer was on top of the list. I spent so much time watching this as a kid (ah, VHS ) that I kinda care about how the characters are represented...(yes, I know how silly that sounds!) The movie is out sometime (summer?) in 2008, and if the trailer is anything to by the Wachowski brothers might actually pull this one off..:) BTW, I'm a little concerned that Racer X is wearing all-black in the trailer, rather than black-and-white as in the cartoon. Yeah, too much time watching cartoons as a kid...I know.

I ended up finding xkcd thanks to a TechTalk-associated flyer lying around the Googleplex. Add one more to the list ways I can use to make my deadlines seem even more hectic.:) The all-time sentimental favorite though continues to be PhDComics , and the much more mainstream comics.com is ever-reliable too.

I can't remember the last time I couldn't put a book down, and just had to finish it. Actually I can, but I'm not particularly proud that the book was the first Harry Potter book (read between 10pm and 4am just after I'd finished college :)) Lately, I've fallen into the bad habit of reading 3-4 books at the same time on and off. So, I think it says something about the quality of the book that I decided to pick it up from the UChicago library sometime yesterday afternoon, started reading it a little bit after that, and between dinner, a little TV-time and sleep, finished it today morning. The book is the graphic novel (yes, it was a comic book!), Watchmen by Alan Moore. I'm pretty sure I only picked it up because I found out that it was the only graphic novel in Time's 100 greatest novels since 1923, I was blown away. The grandness of the overall plot and idea, the comic tragedy of an organization of superheros, the frailty of each of the characters and ...

I've loved PhDComics ever since I came to the US in 2000. It rings so true if you've ever been in graduate school (not b-school though:)) Based on the way the storylines of the two principal characters are proceeding though, I can't help wondering if Jorge is bringing the strip to a close? Here's a good link to get you started on the strip. Update: Jorge just blogged that that's not the case. If Mike and Cecilia graduate though, the world will not quite be the same.

I just remembered that I loved comics; and not just the ones in the papers ; real comic book stories with superheros and stuff. Think almost, but not quite a graphic novel . Growing up I don't remember anything else that captivated me as much! As Jerry Seinfeld put it: "For boys: Superman, Batman, Spiderman; these aren't fantasies. They're career options." Somehow, somewhere I just stopped reading them. A significant part of yesterday was spent in rekindling my interest.
